    7 Months!

There are so many milestones that happen between 6 and 7 months! Elliott started eating solids and has become a super confident mover! He can make his way anywhere he wants to–and quickly at that!

I’ve been telling new moms the secret to getting their child to crawl: put them in a room where they’re not supposed to touch anything…and they will start crawling!! Elliott’s been up on all fours and moving around since the 6 month mark, but one day I was packing up a room filled with candles, glass vases, sharp objects (things like that) and I set Elliott down and he TOOK OFF! I’ve never seen anything like it! I told Brian he was like a ravenous beast. He was even making these “beast-like” sounds!! It was my first real glimpse of the true BOY in him, and I just loved it. I had never seen him move that fast, and he hasn’t slowed down since…

I tried to keep the pictures to a minimum this month :). But here are a few of my favorites from October…

seriously now, could he possible be any cuter?

    favorite faces of the month

    precious face

    sippy cup drama
We tried the whole sippy cup thing for about 2 days because I read in a book that you’re supposed to (?!) and was so frustrated because all he wanted to do was chew on it, not drink out of it. Thankful for wise mamas who have gone before me to tell me he doesn’t need to be drinking out of a cup yet :).

my confident, suave mover of a boy…

    napping game

Elliott and I play this little game every time I put him down. I lay him on his back in his crib, and he instantly gets this HUGE smile on his face because he knows it’s time for our little game…He flips over on his stomach as fast as he can and I run to the door and peek through it and say, “Goodnight!!” or “Rest well!!” and all kinds of other sweet nothings and he just laughs and laughs for about fifteen seconds and then all of a sudden he’ll throw his head down and start sucking his thumb. That’s when I know he’s really ready for a nap :). So I decided to document it one day…this is as I’m peeking through the door at him…

    “crawling” (ish)
Here’s a little video to show you a little sampling of how he moves:

    crawling for REALS!

So, the truth is, I had this post completely written and almost ready to post on the NIGHT of Elliott’s 7 month birthday. I was so impressed with myself. But I needed Brian’s help to upload the last video and, well, it never happened. So now that I’m ready to post it, I’m adding an update!
When Elliott was exactly 7 months, 3 days old, the little man decided it was time to REALLY start crawling. The awesome thing about that day in particular is that it happens to be the EXACT day that BRIAN started to crawl when HE was a baby! Isn’t that awesome?!
I caught a quick video of him on my phone the next day.

Happy 7 month birthday, my little love!!!
  • My delight.

    My delight.

    Zephaniah 3:17

17 The LORD your God is with you,
       he is mighty to save.
He will take great delight in you,
he will quiet you with his love,
he will rejoice over you with singing.”

I am starting to get it.
It’s just incredible how much I delight over my son…and I’m learning anew daily about the way the Lord delights over me. I thought I got it…until I had Elliott.
Elliott is simply the most delightful being ever created… You know, some people say about their kids, “I don’t know how I ever lived without them!” I have a similar sentiment, but mine’s a little different… I’ve always dreamed of having children; I’ve always known deep down that there were children who were designed to be a part of my family, and in a weird way, I’ve always longed for them. So I’ve always kind of lived knowing someone was missing. It’s kind of the same as how I longed for my future husband when I was single…I didn’t know who he was, but I knew there was a piece of my heart created to love him, and until it did it would always be in a little bit of tension. Once Brian found me, my feeling was not primarily, “How did I ever live without him?” (although I really don’t know how I did!) but more: “I knew I always longed for you…I just didn’t know “he” was you, and I only wish I could have married you years and years ago….”
And so it is the same with Elliott. In a strange way, I’ve always known there was a void in my heart for him…I just didn’t know that it was shaped like “an Elliott”…like a perfectly, clear-eyed, pure-skinned, tall and skinny baby boy named Elliott. I didn’t know this determined, brave, pure, joy-filled little baby was what the perfect puzzle piece looked like that would fill this void. And I know there are more “voids” in my heart…but only God knows how many there are and who they are…Ahh, I can’t wait to meet them… But with Elliott I find myself wishing that I could have known him all my life…he simply makes everything more delightful.

But even though I’ve always loved him in some peculiar way, my love for him grows every single day…It is profound how it grows, and so, so beautiful. With every new dawn, with every new discovery, with every new skill, with every new event…I love him more. I love learning more about who he is…I love discovering the ways that his heart was knit together.

It was no different when Elliott grew his very first two teeth.

They started popping through on a Saturday. Sunday and Monday days and nights were all consumed with teething. EB’s nose ran constantly and his big eyes were lined with red and filled with tears and his cheeks were blotchy and warm.

And there was something about that face that melted my heart even more than his usually perfect skin and normally vibrant clear blue eyes. He was a little baby boy. A messy, needy little baby boy. And for someone who doesn’t typically do well with “needy” people, I was just enamoured with my needier-than-normal little love, and couldn’t have been more eager to take care of his every need.

He had just started to reach up for me a few days prior when he wanted me to pick him up. Ahhh…talk about melting my heart! There is nothing greater than to know that you are the one this perfect little boy wants…that  you  are the one this precious baby needs…he’s showing his affection, he’s showing his choice. And that choice is me. I can’t get enough of it. Though he’s been sleeping through the night for a couple of months, for those three teething nights he would wake up crying such a sad, sad, sad cry and couldn’t get himself back to sleep. The first night, I went in to try and soothe him in his crib but it wasn’t working. He just kept crying that sad, sad cry…like he was in so much pain. But as soon as I picked him up and squeezed him tight, he was okay. And the simplicity of the miracle of that act struck me afresh. Isn’t it beautiful? Isn’t it beautiful how God created us? That, with an embrace we are comforted.

We were created to be loved.
And there is just no greater honor than to love him. Than to comfort him. Than to tell him he’s being so brave and strong. Than to tell him it’s all going to be okay. And I’m just so struck by the fact that it’s not a burden to get up in the middle of the night to comfort him. I was not annoyed that he was teething and interrupting my precious sleep. Did I try and take a nap those days? Yes. And if I couldn’t get a nap in? God provided strength. But that doesn’t mean Elliott’s inconveniencing my life by teething right now. He can’t help it. And, let’s not forget that he is my full time job. And this full time job has its breaks, but sometimes it requires work hours in the middle of the night. And that is an honor.

These are my two favorite pictures that show off his hard-earned, brand new two front teeth:

I still view God as being frustrated as I grow. But daily I am being shown that if He loves me anything like I love Elliott, than He is not frustrated at all. No, no…He is far from frustrated. He is pleased with me. He delights over me. Even when I’m growing and it hurts so badly that all I can do is cry… It is a joy for him to be my Father, and it is a joy for him to scoop me up and embrace me. And as long as I am in His arms, there is no need to cry…
Thankful for the love of my Father today…and thankful for the most wonderful son in the world, whom I have the privilege of delighting over every single day…
  • A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words…

    A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words…

We started Elliott on solid foods last week…
Initially, he was so excited about the new objects I was holding in my hand…

That is, until I let him sample the avocado

No captions necessary, right?! I’m sure the poor kid thought we were torturing him! Look at those faces!!
    Day 2 went a little better…
…although he definitely remembered…even before the spoon got to his mouth! (How is it possible to gag when you have nothing in your mouth? Apparently my gagging reflexes during pregnancy were passed down to him…)

we did get a little smile out of him…

“What did you say? I’m done now??”

    “I did it…I’m done!”

    All gone!

  • Do The Puyallup

    Do The Puyallup

The Puyallup Fair is so cool that its website is www.thefair.com. Now, come on…you don’t get much cooler than that.
Brian wanted to bring Elliott to his very first Puyallup Fair for one reason, and one reason alone…

    THE TRACTORS.
Elliott and I both learned about the two major tractor companies represented at the fair…John Deere (aka, “the green ones”) and Kubota (aka, “the orange ones”).
    Aww, yeah!

“Now what do I do? I can’t see over the steering wheel!”

“Oh! It helps when I stand up!”

“I’m getting the hang of it now!”

    Whoa.

    So happy!

He was made for “the orange ones”

I love this picture…can YOU find Elliott’s head??

    We Did The Puyallup…did you??
  • A Very Happy Half Birthday!

    A Very Happy Half Birthday!

Our sweet baby boy is 6 months old! The joy that he brings to our lives is indescribable…we just cherish every second with our little man!

One of the best parts about this last month is that Elliott is learning that he can joke around with us. He LOVES to fake laugh just to watch our responses. It’s so hilarious…sometimes we just laugh back and forth together for what seems like all day! Also this month, he’s started saying, “ma ma ma” and “ba ba ba.” And he thinks it’s HILARIOUS when he says the syllables and you repeat them back to him! I love his sense of humor!!

Here are some picture highlights from this month…

    he can sit unsupported!
So last month he could sit as long as he supported himself with his hands, but a week after his 5 month birthday he figured out how to sit without hands! Now he’s a champ…incredibly stable.

he can stand without our support!
And he LOVES this position…it’s his new favorite.

    he’s still working on crawling!
He can tuck his knees and sometimes push himself up on all fours and has accidentally scooted himself backwards a couple times…

he loves his Leap Frog table!

Mostly because he loves chewing on the book 🙂
    Mmmm!!

    Such a stud.

This is my favorite picture of him this month! I love that face!!!

    Classic Elliott
    And Classic Elliott 🙂
     6 month birthday party!
Grandma and Grandpa Moberg, Kevin, Tabitha and the cousins all gathered to celebrate Elliott’s 6 month birthday. We had mint mud pie in his honor :).
    Opening his first present
    He loves his new turtle!
    Snuggles with Taylor
    And Hailey!
I love this picture! Besides Hailey’s adorableness, look at the reflection in the window behind me…Micah is on Tabitha’s lap and Taylor is playing with him the same way Hailey is playing with Elliott! I love it!
He loves his new photo chew book from Grandma & Grandpa
    Micah and Elliott
And now to end with some smiley pics of our little love
    My favorite 🙂
Elliott’s friend Henry let him borrow this outfit for a few months. We snapped a few pics before giving it back. So cute!
and a couple shots of the padres

    Stripe twins!

    He’s clearly ready for a nap :).
I can’t believe we’re halfway to a year. That makes me so happy and so sad all at once… My little baby is practically a grown boy. Well, solids, here we come!!

  • Cheeseburger Paradise

    Cheeseburger Paradise

So it’s not a huge secret that I had a cheeseburger or two (um, every single day) of my second and third trimesters of my pregnancy with Elliott. I am convinced that’s why he’s so strong and healthy!! You’ve gotta consume over 100 grams of protein daily when you’re roasting a bun in your oven! So having a cheeseburger for one of my two daily lunches (or for one of my two daily dinners) was a great way to get in those grams.

Melisa got Elliott this incredibly perfect Cheeseburger outfit, and I’ve been dying to put him in it and take him to my favorite cheeseburger place!! We discovered this place on our way to get our Christmas tree while I was pregnant with the mighty man, so it’s about 30 minutes away–just outside of Lacy. But it was–hands DOWN–the best burger I had my entire pregnancy. And that’s saying a lot. Because I tried them all, folks.

So welcome to Norma’s Burgers, everyone!!

Here are a few fun pics from our adventure:

Do you see his hat?!? It says “small fry“!!!!!

My Elliott, who is part cheeseburger himself.

    Ha! Look at that face!!!

    Chillin’ in the booth

He LOVES it here! I think he feels a real connection with cheeseburgers.

So. incredibly. excited. to. be. here.

Daddy & son…the best of chums!

    Our family, in Cheeseburger Paradise.

Elliott, I’m so glad you enjoyed your first cheeseburger restaurant experience on the outside of my womb! You have no idea how much more I prefer you on the outside…with you on the outside, my cheeseburgers stay on the inside!!! 🙂

    Love you, small fry!

  • The first step is admitting you have a problem…

The first step is admitting you have a problem…

    I have a problem.

Well, maybe it’s not my problem after all…I mean, the source of my problem is in the fact that Elliott is so darn cute!!!

I have taken WAY, (WAY, WAY) too many pictures of him this month. As in, well over 600 since his last monthly birthday. *sigh* So I put them in a folder and tried to weed them down for the blog and ended up with…223. Yes, that is, two hundred twenty three… Yeah…still a few too many for a blog post.

So then I decided to just upload a new family photo till I figured out how to get rid of about 200 of my FAVORITE photos of him for the blog when…it happened. Blogger told me that I am officially not allowed to upload any more photos to my blog because I have maxed out my space! Ha! WHAT?! No way!! So after a week of sitting on it, I finally decided to cough up the $5 for a year membership for like a billion times more photo storage space. And, I got my favorite pics down to about 20 (ish…). Not bad when you consider where I started :). So here I am…finally getting to blog about his 5 month birthday. So cozy on up for some cute pics and some big milestones in the life of this 5 month old.

Speaking of which, how can it be that our baby is 5 months old?! All 17 lbs, 4 oz, and 28 inches of him!

    be still my heart…

Elliott held a bottle in his hands for the first time!

It happened for the very first time (right after his 4 month birthday) while Brian was holding E.B. and feeding him during a church service one evening. The next day we gave him another bottle and he did it again! We were sure to capture it on film this time…

cute ducky robe that our neighbor got him!

playing on his transportation quilt in his favorite shirt: my daddy drives a big truck

these rattles were Brian’s when he was baby!

lots of play time with Grandma & Grandpa Moberg

    Elliott loves to stand…
This has been his favorite thing since he was very little, but this picture capture it all!

     sneezing
Elliott is still the sneeziest kid I know, and here we caught it on camera! I love this picture :). Look at his little face!! And yes, yes…that’s me, wearing overalls. Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it.

he puts everything in his mouth…

“How many things can I put into my mouth at once??”

    baseball buns!!

    exersaucer!
Like his bouncy toy, this was another hand-me-down and we couldn’t be more thankful for it!! This is the day I put Elliott in it for the first time, and he was soooo fascinated! He just kept discovering new things and would get this look like, “Oh my gosh! There’s more?!? What’s this??”

Love the furrowed brow…deep in thought!
    tall boy
Elliott’s started wearing 9 month sleepers this month. That’s right, at 4 1/2 months old. This rockin’ set of jammies and guitar are from Auntie Danielle. He is lovin’ life as a rock star!

Don’t you just want to snuggle this little face?!?
     sucking his thumb
So he had started sucking his thumb last month, but it is THE THING TO DO this month. Lately, when he gets tired he’ll just lay his head down and start sucking his thumb. I think it is the cutest thing in the entire world. When it happens, Brian and I jump on the opportunity for some extra snuggles!

    laughter
If I had to pick one word to describe Elliott and our lives the last month, it would be laughter. He is so filled with joy and laughs all the time! I feel like all I do all day long is laugh with him.

Here is a fun video of a common little laughing game we play…

I love this picture of his smile!!

    sitting up
So he’s sitting up on his own now, but he has to support himself with his hands. I’m not putting the sticker in his book until he can sit up with no hands :). But, this is still a milestone! He can sit like this for as long as wants to.

    walking!!
So I think I would have bet money that he’d be crawling by now because he’s been sooo close for weeks. But alas, he’s not. However, he’s taking steps!!! Yes, you read that right. Obviously, he needs to hold onto our hands, but he L-O-V-E-S taking steps!! Look how happy he his!! Ha!!
Here’s a video of him taking steps!

    “oh, mom!”
He does this all the time! I call it his “Home Alone” face…hilarious, eh?

Sometimes he still doesn’t connect the fact that he’s grabbing his face….

    bouncy toy
He still loves his bouncy toy…this is a glimpse into our daily bouncing routine!

he’s learning how to give kisses

“I would like to kiss your face, dad!”

“Mmm, well, your nose is the closest part of your face to me.”

“Is this how I do it?”

“Well, I’ll just dive in and try!”

This is how you give kisses, my son!”

    the moberg 3

    Yeah, he’s cute alright…real cute :).

    Me and my boy

    Look at his face!!!! Ha!!

Hope you enjoyed the world’s longest blog!! Happy 5 months, sweet baby Elliott!!

  • 4 Months of Glory

    4 Months of Glory

Elliott is officially 4 months old!

I can’t believe how much Elliott has grown up this last month…it’s just the greatest joy in the world to watch…!

Elliott now weighs 16 lbs 5oz and is 27 1/4 inches tall! What a mighty little man!!

Here are LOTS of highlights from the last month of Elliott’s life!

the evolution of the jumper toy

Brian has been soooo excited to put Elliott in this bouncer since he was *very little*. Check out these first three pictures. Elliott is about a month and a half old, and Brian just really, really, really wanted him to be able to play in it :).

A month and a half old in the Jumper
Even on the lowest setting his feet weren’t even close to reaching the bottom, so Brian put this large textbook underneath him so his feet would touch :).
    Look how little he is!!!

Well, we tried again just after his 3 month birthday and he was *instantly* captivated with all of the colors and pictures. As soon as we put him in it, he just stared at the cartoons on the side for several minutes. I love watching his brain tick!

He loves his new bouncy toy!
“Look at how I can keep my head up now!”
“…and I’m finally tall enough to reach the floor!”

Just a few days later he began to intentionally reach for and grab things, not just unconsciously grab objects. I caught it on camera as he, for the first time, noticed this little bear and reached for him over and over.

Very near his four month birthday he started playing with the little rings on the bouncy toy. He sees them, reaches for them, and slides them back and forth! Good job, little buddy!!

this month, he found his toes

    he’s started sucking his thumb

he wants to crawl so badly!

It was  hard to get a great picture of it, but he LOVES tucking his knees under him and scooting himself forward.  Every time we put him on his back, he instantly rolls over onto his tummy, but after a few minutes he gets really frustrated because he wants to MOVE…but he can’t! He can also rotate himself in a complete circle while on his tummy, but still doesn’t know how to roll over onto his back again.

he is trying to sit up

He can “sit up” by himself for a bout 3.5 seconds, and then he falls over :).

he is starting to grow some hair!!!

This is the worst quality picture ever, but look! Look!! He’s just come from taking a bath and you can see all of his little hairs matted together! He’s not completely bald!!

    first family vacation…San Diego!

which included his first plane ride

Getting ready to feed him for take-off!

Sooo happy standing on the tray table!

We got him his very first teething book (he can chew on the corners) for the plane ride so he would have something new, fun, and quiet to do during the flight :).

    his first foreign country

Check out my last post: The Mexican Mobergs

    his first swim

    Baby Shark and Daddy Shark

What a full month we have had!! And, finally, here are a few of my favorite candid shots of him from this last month… Hope you enjoy our little man’s face as much as we do :).

Gross, yes…but a true glimpse into our world of spit up :).

  • Elliott’s Nursery!

    Elliott’s Nursery!

I’ve really wanted to put up pictures of Elliott’s transportation-themed nursery, so here I am…finally doing so :).

Brian LOVED putting together the crib & changing table…perfect finds from his favorite store…COSTCO :). We were so blessed to find the EXACT style/color of furniture that we wanted at Costco at the exact time we needed it! Yahoo!!

As you may or may not remember from a post in March, my dear friend Amy Wallace and her mom made us these PERFECT, WONDERFUL, BEAUTIFUL wall hangings and quilt. They are my favorite parts of his room…every day I just stare at them and marvel at Amy and her mom’s talent…! I’m so grateful!!!

My sweet sister-in-law Melanie made us a crib skirt out of one of the fabrics from the quilt. You can see it below. I love knowing such talented people :).

The infamous, Glory-of-God-in-a-rocking-chair is below…thanks again, Mom and Dad, for making it possible for me to have the best rocking chair on the planet!!! I love it, and think of you EVERY time I sit in it!!

One of the last projects I worked on before Elliott was born:

A close up of the wall hangings

    A cute little touch:

Melisa got us this little sign for our anniversary last year: “Just when you think you know love, something little comes along to remind you just how big is really is…a beautiful little baby.”

How true it is…our love has grown so much more in the last almost-4 months! Our love for each other has grown and our love for our little E.B. grows exponentially daily…what a gift he is. We do not take him for granted. We praise God for our little gift of love every day!
  • All American, Baby!!

    All American, Baby!!

Be warned…this “4th of July” post is mostly a big excuse to post a bunch of themed pictures of Elliott.
    🙂
Elliott just loved his first 4th of July (outside the womb). It was a glorious day here in Tacoma. The 4th of July is definitely one of those days where it is just an utmost blessing to be in the house we’re in…front row seats to all the celebrations!
We sat out on our deck to watch the famous air show.
Boats gather from all around to watch

If you look veeerrrrry closely at the following picture, you can see an aircraft hovering above the water. This was, by far, the coolest part of the air show. Here’s the paragraph that describes this plane:

USMC – AV-8 Harrier Demonstration Born during the national call-to-arms immediately following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Marine Fighting Squadron 311 (VMF-311) was first organized on December 1, 1942. The Squadron has deployed in World War II, the Korean war, the Vietnam War, the Gulf War and now in Afghanistan and Iraq. The AV-8 Harrier aircraft has Vertical/Short Takeoff and Landing (V/STOL) capabilities which allows this jet to practically hover in mid-air.

It demonstrated the Vertical takeoff and hovered over the water for a LONG time…sooo cool!!

    Ahhh, Mount Rainier…you are perfect.

    4th of July snuggles

Look at this kid. Could there possibly be a cuter All American Baby?

We were trying to do some “artsy” photos with this stool… As you can see, Elliott doesn’t look so sure about the whole idea… Ah, well…we tried :).

    Red, White, and Blue!

He does this thing where he sucks on his lower lip…I just think it’s the CUTEST…

And now, for a series of adorable faces from Thee One and Only, Elliott Adorable Moberg!

If I ever take up photography, I would like to ONLY photograph my own child. I can’t get enough of his little face!!

    IN OTHER NEWS:
(Congratulations if you’ve made it this far through the post!)

Elliott has started sleeping through the night. I’m sorry, did you catch that? My little man has all of a sudden decided he doesn’t need me anymore at 3am. I’m not quite ready to say “He’s sleeping through the night,” but he has sure STARTED to!! He’s now done it 3 times in 5 days. The first night he did it was the night of July 3rd. So I woke up around 3:30am like normal and was surprised he hadn’t cried yet. I couldn’t quite let myself fall all the way back asleep because I was expecting him to cry at any minute. But then I looked at the clock at 4…4:30…5…5:30…6… and he was STILL ASLEEP!!! The funniest part is that every time Brian woke up and realized he wasn’t awake yet, he would ask (because he was trying to be helpful), “Oh, do you want me to go get him?” “No!!!!” I would laugh. “Let him sleep!!” And sure enough, that was our little 4th of July present from our sweet Elliott: first time sleeping through the night (10:30pm-7:15am). I feed him consistently between 7:15 and 7:30 every morning, so as SOON as the clock struck 7:15 and we heard him make the tiniest noise, we both bolted into his room…we couldn’t wait to see him and congratulate him!! This is a memorable day for us, as last year on the 4th of July we found out we were pregnant. What joy!!!!

    Happy 4th, Everyone!!
